What are Explorers?
Explorers is the fourth section in Scouting, and is for boys and girls aged 14 to 18. Explorers take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme, from archery to expeditions. There are many awards that Explorers can work towards, completing Challenges to get the Queens Scout Award. However, taking part and having fun is just as important as what you achieve as an Explorer.
The balanced programme of activities encourages Explorers to find out about the world in which they live, know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and develop their creative talents. There are also opportunities to explore their beliefs and attitudes.
Being outdoors is really important and Explorers love to learn new skills, such as camping, survival and cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities, anything from abseiling to yachting. Explorers is about getting out and about and camping in all the months of the year, whatever the weather!
Explorers in scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.

What is Network?
Beyond 18 and up to 25 years old, young adults can continue in a more self-led groups as part of Scout Network.
This works well for young adults either staying local, moving into work or going to university.
Somewhere there is a Scout Network group to get involved in!
1st Wellesbourne are also happy to involve young adults in leadering in younger age group sections.
Getting involved as a young adult provides ongoing interesting engagement with scouting and helps develop highly beneficial skills that employees recognise.

Russell
Bio: My background is in Financial Services (over 30 years) and I am a Self-Employed Pensions/Financial Consultant and a Director of my own company (since 2004). I enjoy most sports and am a keen cyclist. As a young boy I did join a local Cubs/Scout Group and did very well in Cubs, attaining quite a lot of badges. I did join Scouts when I was younger as I was not keen to do so and did not like staying away from home. I became involved with helping out with Scouts when my Son and my Daughter joined scouting and this is one of the reasons I decided to help out. In addition to this, I also really enjoy the ‘outside’ life and helping out with Scouting activities which in turn helps young people to acquire skills for life, which is another reason why I help out. I have also learnt a lot of skills myself (from just simply putting up a tent, lighting fires, wide games, making tent pegs and navigating on hikes to being able to tie different knots and understand what the knots can be used for).

The Duke of Edinburgh scheme is for all young people who are willing to put the effort in and aged between 14 and 25.
“Bourne Explorers” already has a full programme of challenging activities planned out which will include teamwork, leadership, advanced first aid, hillwalking, camping and volunteering in the community.
Our DofE expeditions will be weekend hikes with a mix of campsite and wild-camping, and canoeing trips in the Countryside with wild-camping in the woods on the banks of rivers.
With us you will work hard, be challenged, make new friends and also have many fantastic life experiences. Spaces are available but expected to fill up.
